Noodles! Review : a puzzle game

Noodles!  is the kind of game that can completely baffle us for minutes at a time. And, then one second later, the entire puzzle reveals itself. It’s never easy but the overwhelming sense of accomplishment we get when we solve a puzzle makes it all worth it.

The concept of the game is quite simple. All the pipes have to be joined in a way that no open ends remain. The pipes join in multiple ways, making it difficult to determine its exact position.

The game follows the minimalist ideology of simple lines, very few colors (only two per screen) and a flat look. There is no music, but each time you rotate a pipe, a chime plays. If you rotate the same pipe more than once, it will chime different notes.

Game play

The game has different playing options like the 5×5, 7×7, 7×10 and 8×8 with either rotating pipes or tiles. The goal of the game is to connect all the pipes together. It is easy with the 5×5 tiles but then gets difficult and challenging when there are a dozen of interlocking pieces.

The pipes have pieces that are open-ended and need to be joined with the t-pieces or close-ended pieces to complete the puzzle. Even curved pieces are present to join the pieces. All of these pipe pieces need to be used to finish the puzzle.

The tile-based game is made up of a grid with hexagons (the developers want us to know that no heptagons were ever used in this game because heptagons suck). Similar to the pipes, these tiles are rotated whenever you tap them. Tiles can have multiple connectors and some are end caps. The main difference between the two puzzles is that the tiles have more rotation options than the pipes.

The Good

This game tantalizes my senses. It challenges the brain because when I think I have nailed it, one of the pipes remains unconnected.

The Bad

The only problem with this game is, there are no hints available. Once stuck it takes a lot of time solving the puzzle.

The Value

The game costs Rupees 120 but is worth the value as there are no in-app purchases and comes ad free.

Personally one of my favorite game in recent times. If you like games like Pipe Mania then Noodles! surely entice you. It is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch.
