My Experience – Facing the Harsh Truth

I’m an anonymous, and my this article shares one of my experience, which made me realize that the world is not as easy as it seems to us…

Now you might have started thinking that what was the experience? That made me realize the fact about life within the age of “19”. It was just a small speaking contest organized by TOI.

The first process was to tape a 1min video delivering a speech on any topic. And the last day of submission was on 17th November. As soon as a child decides to be an engineer its sure that he/she will be doing all the work at its last day. “So was I”.

I choose the most current topic ‘Demonetization of currency’. Within half an hour I mugged up few lines for the topic and at last I asked my roommate to help me to shoot the one minute video. I took this video more then 10 times, every time I would forget any of the line from it. This was the first experience which made me realize that it would be so hard to exist in this media world it took 10 shots for me to shoot a one minute video, what about a film which is been shot for 3 hours and we judge it so easily.

On 19th  I received a call, I was selected in top 100. This increased my confidence (or I should say over confidence). I collected all the latest newspaper and started reading it . I went through the current topics of group discussion (demonetization of currency, women empowerment, triple talaq ,etc).

23rd November, I reached at Hotel Imperial Palace with a bit of nervousness, a bit of confidence and a little curiosity, I  registered my name . Started to stare around, at my competitors and a thought popped in my mind (oh god where have I reached) then I built up my self-confidence.

For the next level of group discussion 100 students were divided into 10 different groups. Each group were given 20 min for the topic, one minute for each student to share their view regarding the topic the next 10 minutes was an open discussion.

My topic was “Should Gujarat remain a dry state?” from my group 4 students didn’t even speak for one minute. I got an idea about my competitors. It was like a do or die situation because you have to speak and drag others attention towards you. I tried my level best.

After 1 hour the results for top 20 were declared. I got to know that my name was not there in it, I was too disappointed. I wanted to get selected in the top 20.

I called my dad shared everything with him. He told me start ignoring two things in life, the first one is ‘I’,stop being selfish this word has an ego in it , which will never allow you to come up in life. And the second thing is ‘want’ never expect anything in life be happy with whatever you get and learn to deal with it.

This thought changed my mind, it brought a positive attitude in me. With a mentality to seek some good tricks from my top 20 competitors, I went to see the 3 minute speech, which was the next level of competition to select the top 5 students.

Listening to their speech I realized that I was standing nowhere in the race, and also realized that, by speaking good English you can never win a competition one should always have a good habit of reading, listening to good speeches, interacting with people and many more things.

Demonetisation – Our role

On 8th Nov, an announcement was made by the prime minister Narendra Modi where ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series ceased to be legal tender in India from the very next day. He also announced the issuance of new ₹500 and ₹2,000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi New Series in exchange for the old banknotes.

The procedures to encash your money into your accounts or to withdraw it, were made clear by Mr Prime Minister.

This move was mostly an effort to stop counterfeiting  of current notes used for funding terrorism, to crack down black money in the country.

Now the question was – Will our country have the patience to go through all the govt mentioned procedures and stand in queues at the ATM for their own money?  Can people actually appreciate the move? Was it worth? Or Was this a scam of 8 lac crore as mentioned by Mr Kejriwal?

Although nothing can be said with conviction, most of the reactions of people suggested that they are happy with the decision. They see the long term benefits of the country. They believe in the efforts made by Mr Modi and they want to give him all the chances. Even some of the top political authorities called it a Brave & Bold Move.

Well, the decision almost made the whole population of the country out on the roads for their money. The long tiring queues has been seen at all banks and ATM’s. Yes! There have been outrage and discomfort in many parts of the country. Yes, there have been casualties that can not be ignored. People have even died ! And our condolence is surely with them.

But we as a citizen need to realize that to change the system of such a huge country takes time. It is not spontaneous. Do we have a will to change for the betterment of our own country? Cant we atleast appreciate the efforts done by our prime minister regardless of whether he would actually prove his say?

It is a matter of choice. Your individual choice might now affect anyone but collectively, all the individual choices will decide the fate of our nation.

Choose wisely.

El Clásico

downloadIntroduction:

It  is the name given in football to any match between fierce rivals Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Originally it referred only to those competitions held in the Spanish championship, but nowadays the term has been generalized, and tends to include every single match between the two clubs: UEFA Champions LeagueCopa del Rey, etc. Other than the UEFA Champions League Final, it is considered one of the biggest club football games in the world, and is among the most viewed annual sporting events. The rivalry comes about as Madrid and Barcelona are the two largest cities in Spain, and they are sometimes identified with opposing political positions, with Real Madrid viewed as representing Spanish nationalism and Barcelona viewed as representing Catalan nationalism.

This rivalry is regarded as one of the biggest in world sport.  The two clubs are among the richest and most successful football clubs in the world and both clubs have a global fanbase; they are the world’s two most followed sports teams on social media.

 Records:

     Real Madrid leads the head to head results in competitive matches with 93 wins to Barcelona’s 90, while Barcelona leads in total matches with 109 wins to Real Madrid’s 97. Also Real Madrid holds the record for highest win in a match by 11-1 in Copa del Rey on 19 June 1943. Xavi Hernandez hold the record for most appearance in Clásico with 34 appearance and Messi is the highest scorer in Clásico.

Recent Rivalries:

The rivalry was intensified in 2011 where, due to the final of the Copa Del Rey and the meeting of the two in the UEFA Champions League, Barcelona and Real Madrid were scheduled to meet each other four times in 18 days. Several accusations of unsportsmanlike behaviour from both teams and a war of words erupted throughout the fixtures which included four red cards. Spain national team coach Vicente del Bosque stated that he was “concerned” that due to the rising hatred between the two clubs, that this could cause friction in the Spain team.In recent years, the rivalry has been “encapsulated” by the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Following the star signings of Neymar and Luis Suárez to Barcelona, and Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to Madrid, the rivalry has been expanded to a battle of the clubs attacking trios, “BBC” (Bale, Benzema, Cristiano) against “MSN” (Messi, Suárez, Neymar).

The Recent Clásico:

     The first clash of the season was schedueled on December 3,2016 at Nou Camp,Barcelona. The match in a tie with goals coming from headers of Saurez and Ramos. This Clásico was clash between Messi-Ronaldo and Zidane-Enrique.

 Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

The figureheads of these two sides, Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo is a rivalry that splits opinions and causes furious arguments almost as much as Barcelona vs Real Madrid itself. The star players didn’t add much fuel to the fire here however.

Ronaldo’s best spell was towards the end of the first half when he had two shots, which Marc-Andre ter Stegen blocked well. Beyond that he found it hard to get involved to any significant effect.

Messi, meanwhile, occupied the thoughts of Madrid’s defenders and midfielders, which allowed Neymar to come to the fore in the second half and left lots of space which Andres Iniesta knew just how to exploit.

However he did not produce the moment of magic that we know he is capable of and perhaps this was one of the reasons the Clasico fell a little flatter than usual.

 Luis Enrique vs Zinedine Zidane

Both coaches made important decisions at the start which shaped the game. Andres Iniesta was left out after injury while Zidane went for Isco over Casemiro.

That suited Madrid more than Barcelona, with the game shifting the Catalans way after their captain was brought on. However, it was not enough to earn them victory.

While Lucho can’t be criticised for not taking risks over the Spaniard, removing Ivan Rakitic was a terrible decision. The Croatian came off after an hour of solid defensive work, when it should have been the slack Andre Gomes who made way.

To compound the error, Arda Turan came on and was sluggish, which Madrid took advantage of with their late goal.

Zidane, meanwhile, perhaps shouldn’t have brought Casemiro into the game but he wanted to try and shackle Iniesta. It can be said that he had little effect and could not change the game and like in the previous few months, was extremely lucky to escape with anything here.

Till the end it felt that Barca had upper hand. But their defence felt sluggish and the free kick in 90’ minute was the result. Modric chipped in from the spot with Ramos scoring the goal.The results favoured Madrid as they are still six points clear than Barca. Both the teams had learnt from the game and would imply their new strategies in their next clash on April 23,2017.

Fantastic Beast – A Whole New era Of Magic

fantastic-beastA Whole New Era Of Magic.

Alohomora!

And thus you enter into the world of magic that has practically redefined the modern literature. An ardent Harry Potter fan could not have asked for more. Being a bestselling book series and one of the most successful movie franchise, it has taught us so much. Till date, it remains one of the most celebrated series and for obvious reasons.

When the trailer of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was released it received a very positive response all around the world. It has been 5 years since the last Harry Potter movie was released. With all the new faces and the opportunity to witness the world outside Hogwarts, it really was a much awaited movie.

Basically, the story is set in 1926. It is about a wizard named Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who arrives at New York City en route to Arizona. He meets a No-Maj/Muggle who is talking to him about how wizards and witches are dangerous. At that time, a niffler escapes from Newt’s suitcase. As he tries to capture it, his suitcase is mistakenly taken by Jacob Kowalski. The suitcase is expandable and has numerous creatures trapped in it. He is studying the creatures in order to write about them. A few creatures escape from the suitcase. Now Newt is trying to capture all the creatures. During this he meets a demoted Auror of Magical Congress of the United States of America ( MACUSA ), Tina Goldstein who arrests him in order to reclaim her position. Thus, the adventure of how he catches all his creatures, begins.

The plot is really great. Specially for the Harry Potter fans, there are a lot of mentions of stuffs related to the series. It always feels great to be able to relate to the characters. So in short it’s a real treat to watch and totally worth the money. And the lead? Eddie Redmayne is just perfection.  He was seen in the movie The Theory of Everything. But with the transition from playing Stephen Hawking to Newt Scamander, we can totally know how commendable his skills are. It is beyond perfect for Harry Potter fans and a must watch.

And when you finish the movie, you’ll have only one line in your mind :

“Awww, I wanna be a wizard!”

Descending of Ember

Tenth month it is, says all of the History,

But nobody is interested to fall into its mystery.

Surely, history can be wrong, can be right,

After all its just inheritance from all the write.

Taking into consideration the weather and climate,

Season it is, for animals to find their mate and mate.

For some, it is the hibernation time,

And for the rest it is the jingles to rhyme.

Less of day light and more of dark nights with twinkling stars,

Makes it more beautiful than two Mooned view from Mars.

Countless sparkles, and cuddled cosy nights under the blanket,

Chilly winds with the childlike drifts over the white water jacket.

Steamy dinners, food smoking out your lust for appetite,

Will surely take you in reverse direction of planned diet.

The month with gifts from the man in red with beard white,

The month wherein the whole world is lit up by light.

The family gatherings near the fireplace and giggles,

The after dinner snacks and some rhyming jingles.

December is actually the “Descending of the Ember”

For the fire gives you warmth from their inner harbor!.

BEWARE OF GOOLIGAN!

ATTENTION android users, you have one more threat to worry about! Gooligan malware has breached the security of over one million Google accounts. The malware steals authentication tokens that can be used to access data from Gmail, Google Photos, Google Drive, and many more.

According to the Check Point research firm, it affects Android Jelly Bean, Kit-Kat and Lollipop users, which is basically 74% of the phones in the market. Over 57% of these phones are in Asia. The firm says they found multiple fake applications which were infected with the malware and those who’ve download these apps will find their devices are impacted by Gooligan. Check Point’s website has a full list of apps that are infected by this on their official blog.

What does Gooligan do?

Every day Gooligan installs at least 30,000 apps fraudulently on breached devices or over 2 million apps since the campaign began. Once the infected app is installed, “it sends data about the device to the campaign’s Command and Control (C&C) server.” From there a rootkit is downloaded on the device, thanks to several security patches missing from phones running Android 4, 5. The rootkit then gives hacked full control of the device, who can then run “privileged commands remotely,” and steal authorised tokens which bypasses the need for two-factor authentication. Gooligan also injects a new “malicious module” into Google Play, which allows it to steal email data, install app from the Store and raise their ranking, install adware, etc. Check Point found how victims had left ratings, reviews for some apps even when they had no knowledge of installing the app.

What should you do?

Check Point has a website created called (https) gooligan.checkpoint.com where users can enter their Gmail address and check if it was breached. For those whose accounts were breached, Check Point recommends flashing your phone, and a re-installation of the OS on the mobile device.

Check Point had reached out to the Google Security team immediately with information on this campaign. It is believe that it is the largest Google account breach to date, and they are working with Google to continue the investigation. Till then, it is advised that Android users should validate if their accounts have been breached.

Dongri to Dubai – An Encyclopedia on Indian Underworld

dongri-to-dubai-reviewDawood Ibrahim Kaskar, world’s most wanted man, is the son of a Mumbai police personnel who was known for his integrity and hard work.
If you search the internet, you’ll find plethora of information on Dawood and the Mumbai underworld. But you hardly get the complete picture of what the underworld is, and how it came into existence. Dongri to Dubai is one book that fills the gap. And it comes from the pen of Hussain Zaidi, a journalist turned author who has authored five other books namely Black FridayMafia Queens of Mumbai,Headley and I, Byculla to Bangkok and Mumbai Avengers.

Social/Historical Context:

The book begins with the period of 1950’s (the early days of Mumbai mafia), and gradually moves on to the era of smugglers like Hazi Mastan & Vardarajan Mudaliar, the menace of the Pathan gang, the short but dreadful span of Manya Surve, and all these stories get interlinked with the making of Dawood Ibrahim – the gangster.
I believe, Dongri to Dubai is an encyclopedia on the Indian underworld.

Writing Style:

After a long time I read a book I didn’t want to put down. Zaidi’s journalist background has greatly influenced the style of the book. Written with eloquence and brevity, I kept on turning the pages till my eyes hurt. No surprise that I finished the book within two days.

I would also like to comment on the way some people have criticized the book. The argument is that Zaidi has written the book on communal lines, i.e., he has portrayed Muslim mafia superior over the Hindu mafia. Here I’ve to say that there’s nothing called a Muslim or a Hindu mafia. A gangster is a gangster, he has no religion. And if only few Hindu gangster’s have been mentioned in the book, it doesn’t imply that Zaidi is biased, rather he has made a point to include only relevant characters.

Each one of us has some expectations with the book at hand and it is highly likely that we may end up disappointed, but it’s also important that we set our expectations right.

My Thoughts:

I found Dongri to Dubai so engrossing that now I want to get back to Indian literature. And I believe that the recent upsurge in Indian publishing industry has brought in some excellent writers. I hope I’m right.

I recommend Dongri to Dubai to everyone, because it is so irresistible!

Google Speeds Up Mobile HTML With AMP

Google has stepped into the web arena once again with AMP-Accelerated Mobile Pages. It is built on HTML and associated standards and the way that it achieves its speed up is to do more with less.

A typical web page is a mess of HTML, CSS and ad-hoc JavaScript. Google’s great idea is to reduce the mess to a regulated and approved subset. It is not so much that JavaScript is banned in AMP, but you can only use the JavaScript that is included in AMP.

 For example, there are just four standard built-in JavaScript components

Component Description
amp-ad Container to display an ad.
amp-img Replacement for the HTML img tag.
amp-pixel Used as tracking pixel to count page views.
amp-video Replacement for the HTML5 video tag.

 At the start of an AMP page you load the AMP JavaScript library which defines these components:

<!doctype html>
<html>

<head>
  <meta charset=”utf-8″>
  <link rel=”canonical” href=”/hello-world.html”>
  <meta name=”viewport”
        content=”width=device-width,
        initial-scale=1,
        minimum-scale=1,
        maximum-scale=1,
        user-scalable=no,
        minimal-ui”>
  Google Speeds Up Mobile HTML With AMP
  </script>
  <style>body {opacity: 0}</style>
  <noscript>
   <style>body {opacity: 1}</style>
  </noscript>
 </head>
 <body>Hello World!</body>
</html>

You can’t add any additional scripts, so we are mostly talking about creating static pages. The JavaScript library provides the standard components and deals with downloading resources. You can add CSS but it too is restricted – limited range of selectors, you can’t restyle the major semantic elements, no animation etc.

In addition all resources have to state there size so that layout can be created and hence optimized before they finish loading.

There is also a range of extended components can be added to the page by being explicitly loaded:

Component Description
amp-anim Runtime-managed animated image, most typically a GIF.
amp-audio Replacement for the HTML5 audio tag.
amp-carousel Generic carousel for displaying multiple similar pieces of content along a horizontal axis.
amp-fit-text Expand or shrink font size to fit the content within the space given.
amp-iframe Displays an iframe.
amp-image-lightbox Allows for a “image lightbox” or similar experience.
amp-instagram Displays an instagram embed.
amp-lightbox Allows for a “lightbox” or similar experience.
amp-twitter Displays a Twitter Tweet.
amp-youtube Displays a Youtube video.

 There is no word on how to get additional components into the library.

By cutting everything down to this simple level, things obviously can be made to go faster. Google is also offering to host a cache for AMP pages – i.e. a free content delivery network. It will also high AMP news pages but also add that this will not effect search ranking.

 Given how many publishers use add-hoc JavaScript for serving ads, analytics and implementing paywalls, the restriction to just a core set of features is going to be unattractive. However, the changes to convert a web page to AMP are not difficult to make and the offer of free page delivery from Google seems have a lot of big publishers queuing up to use it. It is also being supported by Linkedin, Twitter, Pinterest and so on. Of course how real any of this support is will take time to discover.

The page speed increases are claimed to be from 15 to 85%. It is reported that the New York Times load time went from 3 seconds to 500 milliseconds.

Of course page load times are important but so is page profitability. At the moment Google says it will support a range of ad-networks and while the ban on ad-hoc JavaScript does means that analytics and tracking are more difficult, Google claims that its analytic component will provide good page statistics and will get better.

The project is open source under the Apache License 2 and available on GitHub.

At this stage it is difficult to know what to make of AMP. It is open source and a subset of HTML/CSS/JavaScript which means if you adopt it you can serve it and any browser can consume it.
